Good evening Morehead Elementary School families! This is your principal, Mrs. Propst. I am very excited to welcome you all to MES. Our building opens at 7:30 am and we dismiss daily at 3 pm. On Monday, students will report to their homerooms and get breakfast if needed. Beginning on Tuesday, students will be able to choose to go to their grade level playground, cafeteria, media center, or art room. This year MES will continue to offer free breakfast and lunch available for all students. Please encourage your child to consider trying something new this year as we want to increase participation in the meal program. Students may still bring their own lunch as well. Students will need money if they decide to purchase extras such as chips, cookies, drinks, or ice cream. Families, please be patient with our carpool line and bus transportation as we work out the kinks the first couple of weeks. With our morning carpool line, please pull all the way up to the last orange cone and students are permitted to unload anywhere between the orange cones along the drive. We will have staff helping direct. We are short several bus drivers this year in the Morehead City feeder pattern. All schools are working diligently to cover routes. MES is coordinating with MCMS and MCPS to ensure students along the beach route and down Hwy 70 and Hwy 24 are able to receive bus transportation as needed. This is a work in progress as we fine tune routes. Beginning next week, I will release a family newsletter on Facebook and Remind as well as post a link to the weekly All Call on our school webpage. Please make sure you follow us on Facebook and sign up for the different school Remind groups. Again, MES looks forward to welcoming each of you to our wonderful school on Monday morning.

About two weeks ago, two fifth grade students, Evan J. (L) and Will B. (R) discovered an object on our front playground at MCES. Upon investigation and through conformation from the History Museum of Carteret County, the boys discovered a Civil War Era bullet. We plan to display this at MCES as Camp Glenn is part of our history. What an awesome find boys!
